What is in detergents and soaps that cause a skin reaction?
I use a generic detergent and Olay bar soap, or Gap body wash.
I think that there is something in these products that make my upper arms break out in little pinkish bumps all over.
What can I use instead?

The mom is right, but I would say that it’s keratosis pilaris (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris). Do some exfoliation with salt or sugar scrubs and moisturize when your skin is damp. As she said don’t wear shirts with tight sleeves.
