What are some really good vitamins?
I really try to eat healthy and get enough of the nutrients i need, but it’s not always enough. I know this because I tend to have some of the symptoms when I lack things like dull hair, skin rashes, irregularity, and fatigue. My cousin buys a certain kind of vitamin specifically for women through an online store. She takes three pills twice a day. I’ve tried multi-vitamins before and they didn’t make much of a difference, but when I tried the Olay skin vitamins, I felt much better, but want something that’s good for my whole body. Does anyone know of a series of vitamins that I can take with my daily half dose of fiber that will make me feel better and get all the nutrients that I need? Even some good websites would be helpful. Thank you very much!
The best supplementation plan is one that covers both cleansing and nourishing the body. Cleansing is so important for health to keep the liver/and digestive system healthy so that all the nutrients in your diet and vitamin pills will be absorbed properly, and to improve the overall health of the cardiovascular system and entire body. The best way to start is with a daily greens powder supplement. I like Greens+ (Genuine Health brand) which is available at pretty much any health food store and even most grocery stores. Now, greens can taste pretty disgusting when you’re not used to them, so choose a flavoured one like the wild berry or tangerine, and mix 2 teaspoons in a glass of juice first thing in the morning. (start with 2 teaspoons and then work up to a tablespoon or two per day).
As for vitamins, go to the health food store and get a really good quality one. Honestly, most of the brands available in regular grocery stores are full of fillers and/or aren’t the best chemical form to provide optimal absorbence within the body. Try one from Flora, Now, Prairie Naturals, Garden of Life, or Platinum Naturals, to name a few. (I’m not sure where you live, but if you live in Canada, you should be able to find all those). Also get a good quality fish oil supplement (I use O3mega+ from Genuine Health) to provide lots of EPA and DHA, fatty acids that are critical to maintain a healthy brain, soft skin, healthy liver and endocrine system for normal production and regulation of hormones, as well as a healthy mental outlook (very helpful in depression or seasonal affective disorder, by the way).
I would also recommend Udo’s Oil by Flora to provide omega 3 essential fatty acids similar to the EPA and DHA from fish oil. It’s delicious on salads, popcorn, rice and veggies; just don’t cook with it or heat it up because that destroys the delicate omega 3′s. It is amazing for skin, hair and nails.
You mention dull hair…you may need some minerals too…try eating raw nuts, brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds, almonds, sesame seeds….these are full of zinc and magnesium.
Skin rashes…should be taken care of as you improve the health of your liver. The liver and skin reflect each other like a mirror. When the liver is healthy, cleansed, and operating at peak efficiency, your skin will be soft, supple and glowing. I would recommend a liver cleanse at some point….the Renew Life one is good, also FlorEssence Tea by Flora, or the Wild Rose herbal cleanse.
Irregularity…it sounds like your colon could use some help…eat a salad every day and fruits for snacks. Include a tablespoon or more of ground flax seeds in your daily diet…you can add it to a shake, sprinkle it on oatmeal or cereal, or even over cooked veggies. Flax seeds have both soluble and insoluble fibre, so they take care of both the physical movement of material through the colon, and the cleansing of excess cholesterol and lipids from the bloodstream; and also contain lignans which help protect against breast cancer; and are full of omega 3 oils which I mentioned earlier. Just store them in the fridge…I grind my own in a blender fresh as I need them.
Fatigue…well, I think that will improve as you improve your diet, eat more fresh veggies and the greens powder will help a LOT too. If you’re really tired all the time you may be low on iron….in which case, eat lots of fresh grapes and spinach. Also your adrenal glands could be a little tired…the omega oils will help that, and also the B vitamins will make a world of difference.
That’s great that you are already taking a fiber supplement! Keep it up! If you have any other questions, just email me and I would be happy to answer them for you. I hope I was able to help a little.
Good luck! and a peaceful journey to better health
Olay – for you.
